One thing astounding me is how Javier Bardem looks. So different from his last apperance in No Country for Old Man. Different character different impression. And as his performance was great in No Country, here too. He played as a Spanish Bohemian who was attracted to two american tourists yet can’t escape his life from the ex-wife.
Vicky Christina Barcelona wants to talk about love as usual. It tells about Vicky who is engaged to someone nice, neat, rich, bright-futured, and of course artificial. They share nothing in common about art (i guess). And Barcelone came with it’s art, painting and sculpture. About the life of Bohemian. Vicky rejected it, unlike Christina who bore some certain wilderness in her heart. Vicky knew that what she got back in America was the most reasonable life she wants. Yet, the moments with Javier (what was his name?), dragged her out from the that life, from that solid circle.
The rest of the movie pictures the restlessness of Vicky. She was more and more absorbed to the dream of different life which seemed impossible to live before. Now, his boyfriend seems shallow. The experience was great with Javier (I wish i remember his name). Yet, Vicky is not Christina. She can’t jump right out to Javier and live all that she had behind.
In the end …
I can’t tell the end. All i can say is that the end is not that impressive. There’s something unnatural in the end. Anyway, VCB is just another drama. Talking about relationship. If the critic says film ” Closer” is the love story for the adults, i think VCB is just another love story for teens.
